Cyril and Methodius, Cyril's elder brother, composed the alphabet in the Slavic language, translated the Gospel, the Psalter, the Apostle and other liturgical books. They held a Slavic service and taught those nations for which this language was not familiar. Thanks to the sermons of the brothers, the Khozar prince adopted Christianity with his people. As a reward, Cyril asked to release all the Greek captives.
At the invitation of the Pope, the brothers visited Rome and brought with them the relics of the holy martyr Clement. The Pope met Cyril and Methodius with great honors.
