Gastritis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa. The most common causes are Helicobacter pylori invasion and abuse of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Symptoms of gastritis can be mistaken for myocardial infarction. Other conditions with similar symptoms include inflammation of the pancreas, biliary colic, and peptic ulcer.

Causes of Gastritis

A common cause is a local infection with a gram-negative bacterium - Helicobacter pylori. Also, toxic substances - alcohol, numerous analgesics (for example, acetylsalicylic acid and other NSAIDs), cytostatics, potassium chloride and glucocorticoids are common causes of gastritis.

Other possible causes:

• Autoimmune disease;

• Physical or psychological stress: injuries, accidents, burns, sepsis;

• Infectious diseases: viruses, fungi, protozoa, bacteria;

• Atrophic, eosinophilic, uremic, granulomatous, lymphocytic gastritis;

• Hyperplastic gastritis.

The main symptoms are: bloating, pain in the upper abdomen, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. Symptoms decrease or worsen after eating. Possible complications include stomach ulcer, intestinal bleeding, stomach cancer, and vitamin B12 deficiency.

Treatment of gastritis at home with folk remedies is not recommended, since bacterial invasion requires antibiotic therapy. In herbal medicine, weak plant antibiotics are used, which are not only ineffective, but also harmful.

Treatment of gastritis at home with folk remedies: food

Grind 50 g of flax seeds in a coffee grinder to a powder form, pour 300 ml of boiling water and let it brew for 1 hour. Then mix vigorously and take throughout the day.

Doctor's comment: according to scientific sources, the seed contains lignans and diglycosides. Long-term use of flaxseed has a positive effect on the concentration of cholesterol in the blood. According to Norwegian studies, daily consumption of ground flaxseed (30 g / day) reduces the risk of developing prostate cancer.

The use of a decoction of flax seeds does not reduce the acidity of the stomach, therefore, does not have a clinically significant effect on the course of gastritis. The recipe is useless.

Daily consumption of 200 ml of potato juice.

Doctor's comment: Potato is a high-carb vegetable product that is very popular around the world. Fresh tuber has about 80% water and 20% dry matter, most of which is starch. The amount of protein is comparable to the number of crops and is very large in relation to other tubers and roots.

Potatoes have a low fat content, are rich in trace elements and vitamin C (the skin contains about 50 mg, which provides almost half the daily requirement). Potatoes are also a good source of iron. In a smaller amount, the plant contains vitamins B1, B3 and B6 and minerals Ts potassium, phosphorus and magnesium.

Potato juice has a slight alkalizing effect and neutralizes the acidic environment in the stomach. With gastritis with high acidity, the juice will help, but only to a small extent. The recipe is not useless, but it will not bring a tangible therapeutic effect.

4 tablespoons of honey mixed with water and taken 3 times a day.

Doctor's comment: the antimicrobial effect of honey is confirmed by scientific experiments. High osmolarity and acidity, hydrogen peroxide and volatile substances such as flavonoids and phenolic acids have been described as responsible for this antimicrobial activity. Antifungal effects have also been investigated and confirmed.

Despite its therapeutic properties, honey cannot be taken by children under the age of 1 year because of the possibility of infection with Clostridium botulinum, which causes botulism. The immune system of children does not have the ability to destroy the microorganism.

Honey worsens the course of gastritis with high acidity, but it can help with Helicobacter pylori invasion. In the short term, honey aggravates the course of gastritis, but in the long term it helps to get rid of a bacterial infection. The recipe is more harmful than healthy.

Coconut Water

Doctor's comment: Coconut water has a diuretic, anthelmintic and laxative effect. Mesocarpia broth in areas of origin is used as a laxative and antiparasitic.

Since gastritis is not caused by parasitic diseases, coconut water is ineffective. Other active substances can have a slight antimicrobial effect, which, however, does not have clinical significance.

Treatment of gastritis at home with folk remedies: herbal remedies

Birch juice.

Doctor's comment: Birch leaves contain saponins in addition to resin acid and potassium salt. Saponin is a substance that is used for rheumatism, diseases of the bladder and kidneys. Birch leaf tea has a diuretic effect.

Sweet birch sap can enhance the increased acidity of the stomach and, consequently, the course of gastritis. With acid gastritis, it is necessary to abandon the use of juice. However, it can be useful in gastritis with low acidity.

The juice of cabbage.

Doctor's comment: cabbage has a clinically insignificant anti-cancer effect. This is probably due to the fact that the plant contains a lot of glucosinolates. During degradation (hydrolysis) by myrosinase enzymes, indolines and isothiocyanates are formed, which prevent the formation of stomach cancer.

Cabbage juice reduces the acidity of the stomach, but the effect is negligible, so the use is likely to be of no benefit. The effects in most cases are comparable to placebo. The recipe will help with mild heartburn.

Grind 20 g of burdock root, pour boiling water and take without sugar 3 times a day.

Doctor's comment: traditional medicine believes that burdock has a diuretic effect. In the past, the plant was also recommended against arthritis, ulcers, stomach problems, alopecia, psoriasis, skin diseases and gastritis.

Basically, burdock stimulates diuresis and hepatobiliary functions. The active ones are lignin, arctin, inulin, mucus, small amounts of essential oil, derivatives of caffeic acid and taracinic acid (sesquiterpenactone).

Burdock extract reduces inflammation of the stomach and relieves heartburn. Long-term use improves the structural state of the epithelium, and also prevents the development of gastric ulcer. The recipe is useful, but it is not recommended to use burdock for more than 14 days without consulting a doctor.

Grind 50 g of plantain and Hypericum perforatum. Pour the resulting mixture into 1 liter of vodka and let it brew for 7 days. Then strain and drink for 4-5 days.

Doctor's comment: tannins and pectin have an antibacterial effect. Hypericum perforatum reduces inflammation in the stomach and improves intestinal motility.

Infusion can reduce inflammation and heartburn, but does not work against Helicobacter pylori - the main cause of gastritis. Symptomatic treatment of gastritis at home with folk remedies with St. John's wort and plantain can be used for burns and uremic inflammations.

Treatment of gastritis at home with folk remedies: extremely dangerous methods

Chaga.

Doctor's comment: Chaga contains more than 200 active biological substances. Various polyphenols, and especially oxygen-containing triterpenes, have been identified as ingredients.

According to official data, chaga and other types of kombuchi can be hazardous to health due to the high content of pathogenic microorganisms. Kombucha poisoning has been reported. With gastritis with high acidity, chaga can be an immediate threat to health.

Baking soda.

Doctor's comment: baking soda dramatically reduces the acidity of the stomach. A decrease in the concentration of hydrochloric acid in the stomach reduces the ability to digest food. Enzymes in the stomach, such as chymosin and pepsin, work optimally at high concentrations of hydrochloric acid. Low pH (high acid concentration) usually kills bacteria. Therefore, it increases susceptibility to infectious diseases.

Treatment of gastritis at home with folk remedies will help accelerate the restoration of the epithelium and reduce inflammation.

The root cause - the invasion of Helicobacter pylori, an autoimmune disease - should be treated by a doctor.
