Regular consumption of grapes strengthens the heart muscle, enhances metabolism and reduces the risk of diabetes. American scientists have found that grapes are able to effectively protect organs from diseases associated with the genesis of the metabolic syndrome. The beneficial effect, the researchers say, guarantees polyphenol, which is found in grapes.

Metabolic syndrome is a rather severe metabolic disorder characterized by obesity, high cholesterol, insulin resistance and hypertension. This disease can cause stroke, cardiac ischemia, type 2 diabetes. Statistics is inexorable: almost 35% of Americans suffer from metabolic syndrome and the number of cases is steadily increasing.

Experts comprehensively studied the effect of a high-fat "American" diet without grapes and with the inclusion of grapes on the kidneys, adipose tissues, liver and heart of laboratory rats prone to obesity. Grapes in the form of a powder from a mixture of black, green and red berries were given to rodents for three months.

It was found that a 90-day grape diet significantly reduced the level of inflammation markers in animals. The most significant changes were observed in the abdominal fatty tissues and liver. In addition, the use of grapes significantly reduced the mass of abdominal fat, kidneys and liver, when compared with indicators in rodents that do not receive grape powder. Finally, grapes have increased the degree of antioxidant protection in the kidneys and liver.

The results of the study confirmed the fact that nutrition enriched with grapes can be a reliable protection against the metabolic syndrome and disorders that organs and the body receive as a result of this disorder.
