Yesterday’s statement by the writer Eduard Ouspensky that 90% of the Russian population are idiots shook up the members of the Writers' Union.
Famous writers reminded Mr. Ouspensky that these "90%" are readers who have grown up on his remarkable works. According to the secretary of the board of the Russian Writers' Union, Sergei Kotkalo, the writer himself apparently adheres to the values of the main anti-hero of his own story about Cheburashka, old woman Shapoklyak, who asserted that helping people is wasting time.
